Failure is not an option

Jamie Hallum Memorial Ride

On April 22, 2016, I joined a group of good friends, colleagues, and family members to pay tribute to a great friend and all around person who past away 11 years ago due to brain cancer.  We honor Jamie Hallum each and every year by joining together and riding our old bodies (and hiking for others) up Lookout Mountain.  It’s a special day for everyone and a great way to put into perspective the important things in life…health, family, friends, and living a good life.

The Beginning of My Story

Two years ago, I did my first Ironman in Boulder, Co.  I trained for a year, lost over 20 pounds and fought every step of the way to finish.  I finished in second to last place with only 66 seconds to spare before the cutoff!  I had done it!  I thought that might be enough, but it wasn’t.  I signed up to race Ironman Cabo in 2015.  The race got the better of me between the extreme heat (96 degrees), the lack of water on the course and the hill climbs.  At the halfway point on the bike, I missed the cutoff and got pulled from the race.  My heart sank and though I told everyone, I am done racing; turns out I can’t go out with a DNF!

After a recent scare with an aggressive skin cancer, I had to take a step back and look at my life’s journey.  I questioned if I was on the right path and doing what I should be to “make a difference.”  It is too easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day.   I try to live each and every day of my life making a difference in someone else’s life, big or small.  After much consideration and deliberation,  I have decided to give up my spare time to a very strong passion of mine the Ironman Foundation.  I have joined Team IMF in order to make a difference in many peoples lives by raising money for the community and for grants.  My goal is to make a gigantic difference as an ordinary person by 1) Raising $100,000 and 2) Racing Ironman Kona at the World Championships!  Between training for a huge challenge (Ironman Kona), I am also reaching out to 5,000 people asking for you to commit to me.  You can help me “make a difference” as an ordinary person by digging deep and making a donation to The Ironman Foundation through the link below and then email me the names of 10 or more people I can reach out to and connect with them.
